Song Post: “Mary Consoles Eve”, Rain for Roots

I have written before about Rain For Roots’ album Waiting Songs, but I just have to recommend it again. [I was originally hoping to publish this during Advent but didn’t. It’s still a great year-round record.] Yes, it is technically categorized as “Children’s Music”, but quite frankly I listen to it by myself pretty often and I don’t think that should dissuade anyone from buying this record.

I’ll highlight the song “Mary Consoles Eve”, mostly because I have a hard time singing or hearing it without starting to cry.

Typing out the lyrics doesn’t really convey the same emotion, so I won’t even bother. My children love the “Almost / Not Yet / Already” chorus, which is simple but underscores all of the emotions we feel during the Advent season: a longing for Christ mingled with the joy that He has come.

Stream it or buy Waiting Songs on Rain for Roots’ Bandcamp.
